Kollund Østerskov Strand

Kollund Østerskov Strand is a bathing beach located on the northern side of Flensborg Fjord near Hotel Fakkelgården. The beach extends approximately 200 metres and has a narrow sandy shoreline with occasional seaweed deposits. The seabed consists of sand with some gravel near the waterline, and the water depth remains under 5 metres up to approximately 200 metres from the shore.

Location

Located on the northern side of Flensborg Fjord in the vicinity of Hotel Fakkelgården. Parking is available at the hotel and along nearby country roads.

Season

1 June to 1 September

Water Quality

Classified as Excellent quality. Classification is based on regular monitoring samples collected between 2019 and 2022. The classification is reviewed annually before the bathing season begins.

Risks

Cyanobacteria (blue-green algae) blooms may occur, typically after periods of heavy rain followed by warm weather. Large quantities of macroalgae (seaweed) can accumulate at the water's edge. Glass fragments, litter, and chemical pollution including oil spills may occasionally occur. Contamination risk is highest during heavy winds and rainfall. Duck populations in the area contribute to potential pollution. A private watercourse discharges directly onto the beach from adjacent woodland.
