Sædding Strand is a 1 km long beach consisting of coarse sand with scattered small stones. The beach is 40 meters wide and located along Sædding facing Ho Bay. The sand appears reddish or rusty due to a natural chemical process between the sand's iron content and rainwater. The water is shallow with depths under 2 meters extending 200 meters from the shore. The beach is separated from the town by a large green area creating a pleasant atmosphere.

Water

Saltwater bay (Ho Bay). The water contains fine suspended matter from natural tidal mud and is therefore unclear. Water depth is under 2 meters within 200 meters of the shore. Current direction is primarily from the west.

Location

Sædding, reached via Sædding Strandvej. Parking available along the road for the entire beach length with stairs down to the beach. A toilet is located on the parking area north of the bathing zone at Gudenåvej.

Facilities

Lifeguards present. Toilets available. Red flag warning system for water quality alerts. Parking available along Sædding Strandvej with stairs to beach access.

Season

1 June to 1 September. Red flag warning signs posted during this period at discharge outlets.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: Excellent. Classification based on samples from 2017–2019. Monitoring tests are conducted routinely during the bathing season for two indicator bacteria: E. coli and enterococci. Previous classifications: 2016 Satisfactory, 2017 Poor, 2018 Satisfactory, 2019 Excellent, 2020 Excellent. Identified pollution sources include Guldager Møllebæk discharge approximately 1.2 km north of the sampling point, stormwater runoff from residential areas via 20 outlets, an overflow structure at Karl Andersens Vej (rebuilt in 2018), a stormwater pipe outlet, and resting waterbirds on sandbars.

Risks

Bacterial contamination from stormwater discharge and overflow structures during rainfall exceeding 1 mm. Resting waterbirds contribute enterococci. Low risk of cyanobacteria blooms. Low risk of phytoplankton blooms. Low risk of large seaweed accumulation. Northern 500 meters of beach designated non-bathing zone due to shallow water and bird presence. Glass shards, litter, and chemical pollution including oil spills can occur. Sudden contamination possible from leisure boat accidents, slurry tanks, or sewage pipes.
