La Rotta

Italy Lake 2 - Good

La Rotta is a sandy and gravelly beach with grassy areas on Lake Maggiore in Dormelletto, Piedmont. The beach is publicly accessible and bordered by a sailing centre. The bathing water is classified as Good based on routine monitoring from 2021 to 2024. No cyanobacterial blooms exceeding 20,000 cells/ml were detected over the past four years, and no toxic effects on swimmers have been recorded.

Water

Lake Maggiore. The bathing area covers 0.025 km² with a beach width of 25 metres. The treatment plant is approximately 4 km north of the sampling point.

Location

Located in Dormelletto, Province of Novara, Piedmont region, on Lake Maggiore. The beach is situated at an altitude of 236 metres above sea level. Parking and contact information available through the Municipality of Dormelletto, via F. Baracca n. 4, telephone 0322 401411.

Facilities

Showers, toilets, and restaurant facilities. Animal access is prohibited.

Water Quality

Water quality classification is Good (Classe: BUONA). Based on 23 routine samples from 2021-2024: Escherichia coli 90th percentile 127.6 MPN/100 ml, 95th percentile 258.4 MPN/100 ml; Enterococci 90th percentile 173.1 MPN/100 ml, 95th percentile 333.6 MPN/100 ml. The area is served by wastewater collection systems.

Risks

Overflow structures and pumping stations are present within 200 metres of the sampling point. Intense rainfall can trigger overflow structures, and accidental failures of pumping installations may discharge untreated wastewater into the lake. Inadequate management of the sewage network is a potential pollution source.
