Lisanza

Italy Lake 1 - Excellent

Lisanza is a pebble beach with grassy banks on the southern shore of Lake Maggiore near Sesto Calende, Lombardy. The beach is freely accessible and spans approximately 20 metres in width. Water quality has been classified as excellent based on monitoring data from 2019–2022. The beach is situated a few kilometres from the town centre and benefits from comprehensive water quality monitoring and management programmes.

Lake Maggiore. The bathing area covers 0.161 km², with an altitude of 197 metres above sea level. The lake basin is the Ticino River.

Location

Located on the southern shore of Lake Maggiore in Sesto Calende, Lombardy, a few kilometres from the town centre. Parking, a bar, and restaurants are available adjacent to the beach.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: Excellent (2019–2022 reference period). Monitoring is conducted by a buoy in Pallanza (CNR and ARPA) for pathogenic bacteria including Escherichia coli, intestinal enterococci, and cyanobacteria. The wastewater treatment plant serving this beach is located in Angera and complies with regulatory discharge limits. No anomalous events have been recorded.

Risks

Possible short-duration pollution events from unfavourable meteorological conditions, such as heavy rainfall causing runoff and accumulation of various waste materials. Accidental or unauthorised discharges of wastewater or polluting debris are possible. Seasonal algal blooms are possible, though no exceedances of regulatory thresholds have been observed in the last three years. No toxic effects on swimmers or the aquatic environment have been recorded.
