Latouros is a sandy beach in Cyprus with a length of 670 meters, characterized by sandy material mixed with small pebbles in places. The beach features three submerged breakwaters approximately 140 meters long each, positioned about 100 meters offshore and nearly parallel to the shoreline. These structures protect the beach and create characteristic sand tongues. The beach supports marine sports activities and can accommodate a maximum of 350 daily swimmers.

Water

Coastal water body named Zygi-Cape Kiti. Average water depth: 1.5 meters. Maximum water depth: 2.5 meters. Beach length: 670 meters. The seabed is covered with sandy material of varying grain sizes, mixed in places with small pebbles. No vegetation is present on the seabed.

Location

Located in the Larnaca district, Alaminou Community. Coordinates: 33.4625°E, 34.7733°N. The monitoring point is positioned at the center of the beach where the highest concentration of swimmers is expected under normal conditions. A pedestrian path runs along the upper limit of the sandy beach.

Facilities

Lifeguard services are provided. Waste collection bins are available. Beach cleaning is managed by the Alaminou Community Council. Marine sports services are offered at the beach. A recreational vessel shelter is located 300 meters to the east.

Monitoring period established in 2008. Data covers swimming seasons 2008-2010.

Water Quality

Water quality is classified as excellent based on monitoring data. No short-term pollution incidents have been recorded during the 2008-2010 swimming seasons. The upstream river body (Xeropotamos) is in moderate ecological condition and good chemical condition. The coastal water body is in good ecological condition.

Risks

Moderate risk of macroalgae and phytoplankton eutrophication development. Short-term pollution risk is negligible, with possible sources including storm water runoff and Xeropotamos river discharge, occurring approximately once per swimming season and lasting 1-2 days.
