Plage du Guen is a bathing beach located in the commune of Erquy in the Côtes-d'Armor department. The beach is subject to a Type 1 vulnerability profile assessment under European bathing water quality regulations. The site experiences tidal currents and wave conditions typical of the Breton coast, with average monthly rainfall and temperature variations characteristic of the Atlantic maritime climate.

Marine bathing water body. The bathymetry and tidal current patterns are documented for the study area, with maximum current speeds measured by Ifremer. Wave heights are recorded, and the site experiences tidal fluctuations.

Location

Erquy, Côtes-d'Armor department, France. The beach is identified on regional maps showing its position within the coastal zone.

Water Quality

Water quality monitoring conducted by ARS (regional health authority) from 2007 to 2011 shows bacteriological follow-up results. The beach was classified according to European bathing water quality standards. Shellfish harvesting zones are monitored through REMI network (Ifremer). Phytoplankton and phycotoxin surveillance conducted through REPHY network (Ifremer). E. coli concentration at the Erquy wastewater treatment plant outlet was monitored from 2005 to 2010.

Risks

Potential pollution sources identified include collective wastewater systems, non-collective sanitation, stormwater networks discharging directly to sea, and accidental pollution sources. Macroalgae proliferation potential assessed. Weather conditions favourable to pollution events documented. Wastewater treatment plant discharge and stormwater runoff outlets identified as pollution sources requiring monitoring.
