Agon-Coutainville beach (Plage du Passous) is a bathing area located in the commune of Agon-Coutainville in the Manche department. The beach is subject to regular sanitary monitoring of water quality and shellfish production zones. Water quality is influenced by several rivers and coastal discharges, including the Sienne and Soulles rivers, and the Canal du Passevin. The bathing area has experienced closures due to water quality issues related to fecal contamination indicators.

Water Quality

Water quality is classified according to Directive 2006/7/CEE. Monitoring includes testing for fecal indicator bacteria. Historical water quality assessments are available from 2013-2016. Shellfish production zones in the area are subject to bacteriological monitoring.

Risks

Contamination from fecal indicators. Potential pollution sources include collective and non-collective wastewater treatment systems, stormwater drainage, agricultural activities (livestock), slaughterhouses, shellfish farming facilities, ports and mooring areas, camping sites, recreational foot traffic, and resuspension of sediments in the Regnéville harbour. Seabird presence affects mussel deposit areas.
