Water Quality

Water quality classification: Excellent (2008-2011). Potential pollution sources identified include the Lerone treatment plant, offshore discharge pipes, Imhoff system, and river mouth. Cr6+ (chromium VI) monitoring conducted alongside bathing water sampling. No cases of potentially toxic algal strain proliferation in the last 4 years.

Risks

Potential pollution impacts from wastewater treatment facilities, offshore discharge pipes, and the Lerone stream mouth. However, oligotrophic conditions in the Ligurian Sea prevent cyanobacterial blooms, and no macroalgae proliferation or toxic phytoplankton events have been documented in the last 4 years.
