Les Tellines is a bathing beach in Valras-Plage commune located approximately 900 metres east of the Orb river mouth. The beach is situated in an open coastal environment that favours pollutant dispersion. The beach profile was established in January 2011 in accordance with European Directive 2006/7/CE requirements. Based on simulated water quality data from the four previous bathing seasons, the beach is classified as a Type 1 profile, indicating no established risk of water contamination and water quality rated as sufficient, good, or excellent.

Coastal bathing area in an open sea environment adjacent to the Mediterranean coast. The zone of influence extends 8 kilometres along the Orb river from its mouth and includes a watershed of approximately 28 square kilometres.

Location

Valras-Plage commune. Located approximately 900 metres east of the Orb river mouth. The full profile is available at the Town Hall, 10 Allée du Général Charles de Gaulle, 34350 Valras-Plage.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: Type 1 profile according to Directive 2006/7/CE. Simulation of historical monitoring data from four preceding bathing seasons indicates water quality rated as sufficient, good, or excellent. No established pollution risk identified.

Risks

The beach location near the Orb river mouth with eastward-directed breakwaters can direct pollution plumes toward the bathing zone. Wind conditions can either disperse pollutants offshore or push them toward the coast, potentially increasing pollution persistence at the beach. Bacterial contamination risk is evaluated based on vulnerability indicators and identified hazards.
