Allée de Gaulle is a bathing beach in Valras-Plage located approximately 300 metres west of the Orb River estuary. The beach is situated in a semi-open environment with breakwaters that limit water currents in the bathing zone. According to water quality simulation based on the EU Bathing Water Directive 2006/7/CE, the beach is classified as a Type 1 profile, indicating that pollution risk is not established and water quality is sufficient, good, or excellent.

Water

Coastal bathing zone in a semi-open configuration. The immediate zone extends from 0 to 1 km from the beach. The nearby zone extends between 1 and 5 km and encompasses the entire municipality of Valras-Plage and the port of Sérignan. A distant zone extends approximately 8 km upstream along the Orb River with a catchment basin of 28 km².

Location

Valras-Plage, approximately 300 metres west of the Orb River estuary. The bathing water profile is available at the town hall: 10 Allée du Général Charles de Gaulle, 34350 Valras-Plage.

Water Quality

Type 1 profile classification. Water quality is simulated as sufficient, good, or excellent based on sanitary control results from the four previous bathing seasons according to Directive 2006/7/CE. All bathing waters must achieve at least sufficient quality by 2015.

Risks

The semi-open configuration with breakwaters limits water currents, allowing pollutants to remain longer in the bathing zone, conferring high vulnerability to the beach. Potential sources of bacterial contamination are evaluated through vulnerability indicators and hazard identification.
