Lido Di Bodio

Italy Lake 1 - Excellent

Lido Bodio is a free-access rocky and gravelly beach located on the southern shore of Lake Varese, approximately 500 metres from the SP36 road and the centre of Bodio Lomnago. The beach is 15 metres wide and adjoins a grassy area. The lake is situated at an altitude of 238 metres above sea level.

Lake Varese (Lago di Varese). Surface area of the bathing area: 0.050 km². Altitude: 238 metres above sea level. Monitoring point located at a buoy in the centre of the lake.

Location

Southern shore of Lake Varese, approximately 500 metres from SP36 road and Bodio Lomnago town centre in Varese Province, Lombardy. Parking is available.

Facilities

Bar, restaurant, hotel, parking. Small boat marina. Animals permitted on leash only.

Water Quality

Classification pending. Swimming ban in place until June 2022 due to remediation works including hypolimnetic water extraction, drainage network surveys and structural interventions. Lake Varese falls under agglomeration AG01207201 with a single wastewater treatment plant located in Gavirate that complies with discharge limits. Integrated monitoring programme in place. Possible seasonal cyanobacterial proliferations; no threshold exceedances recorded since 2019.

Risks

Possible seasonal cyanobacterial proliferation. Cyanobacteria at elevated concentrations can produce toxins with potential toxicological effects. Water quality impacts may result from adverse meteorological conditions including severe atmospheric events.
