Water Quality

Classification: pending. Sampling occurs at least every 30 days from April to September. Cyanobacterial proliferation is under ongoing study. Algal blooms have been recorded consistently throughout the year, with a notable Planktothrix rubescens bloom in October/November 2011 showing microcystin concentrations exceeding 5 micrograms/L.

Risks

Algal blooms occur regularly throughout the year, particularly in autumn months. Fish kills have been recorded during algal blooms and due to oxygen depletion in deep water layers. Macroalgae and phytoplankton proliferation in July 2012 caused disruptions to rowing competitions and event setup.
