Lido Di Ghirla

Italy Lake 1 - Excellent

Ghirla Lido is a bathing area located on the western and eastern shores of Lake Ghirla in Valganna, a few kilometres from the municipality of Ghirla. The beach consists of rocky and sandy areas with free access, an adjacent large grassy area, and parking facilities. The water has been classified as excellent quality based on monitoring data from 2019 to 2022.

Water

Lake Ghirla. Altitude 445 m above sea level. Part of the Ticino River basin. Water outflow is regulated by gates with discharge from the bottom and possible lateral overflow in compliance with regulatory limits.

Location

Located in Valganna, on the shores of Lake Ghirla, a few kilometres from Ghirla municipality. The beach area extends 0.630 km². Free access with ample parking available adjacent to the beach.

Facilities

Restaurants, bars, picnic and BBQ facilities, camping, and horse riding facilities nearby. Dogs on leash are permitted. No lifeguards, toilets, showers, disabled access, or flags mentioned.

Water Quality

Water quality classified as EXCELLENT for the reference period 2019–2022. No exceedances of regulatory thresholds have been recorded since 2019. No anomalous events have been registered. An intercommunal treatment plant (AG01206901) is present in Ferrera di Varese.

Risks

Possible critical conditions from unfavourable meteorological events such as severe weather. Potential algal blooms seasonally possible. Potential toxic cyanobacteria blooms cannot be ruled out, though no anthropogenic activities known to promote eutrophication and cyanobacteria growth.
