West of Romatzos is a sandy beach bordered by rocky formations and dining facilities to the west, located in a natural rocky cove in Larnaca Bay. The beach is 160 meters long with an average water depth of 1.5 meters and a maximum depth of 3 meters. Access is via an asphalt road connected to the regional road network. The beach accommodates a maximum of 100 daily swimmers and is managed publicly, though it falls within a British military base area.

Location

Located near the village of Ormithia in Larnaca District, Cyprus. Access is via asphalt road connected to the A3 highway and the regional road network. The fishing harbor of Ormithia is approximately 300 meters to the east, and the Larnaca power station is approximately 1.5 kilometers to the west.

Facilities

No public facilities are provided. Adjacent private dining infrastructure exists to the west but is outside the beach boundary. No waste collection bins are present; waste collection is the responsibility of Ormithia Community.

Season

Official monitoring occurs during the swimming season. Southwestern winds predominate during the swimming period.

Water Quality

Water quality is classified as excellent based on monitoring data. The coastal water body in which this beach is located is in good ecological status. Monitoring under Directive 76/160/EEC began when Cyprus joined the European Union in 2004. The beach is within a nitrogen pollution sensitive zone (Kokkinochoria).

Risks

Low risk of short-term pollution. Possible pollution sources include low-intensity agricultural runoff, road drainage from the asphalt road adjacent to the beach, quarrying activities 700 meters north, wastewater infiltration from residential developments and dining facilities upstream (lack of sewage network in the area), small craft mooring area, small boat maintenance facilities, fishing harbor operations 300 meters to the east, and shipping traffic. One recorded short-term pollution incident (18 August 2009) involved debris from a passing vessel. Short-term pollution risk frequency: once during the swimming season. Short-term pollution duration: 1–2 days. Low risk of macroalgae and phytoplankton eutrophication.
