Pantano is a coastal bathing water area located 100 metres north of the Pantano locality in Bisceglie, Puglia. It is characterised by a rocky coastline. The area has an excellent water quality classification for the period 2017–2020. The surrounding region is predominantly agricultural with a fossil hydrographic network and irrigation channels, which may represent potential sources of diffuse pollution conveyed by surface runoff waters.

Location

Bisceglie, Province of Barletta–Andria–Trani, Puglia region, Italy. Located 100 metres north of Pantano locality.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: Excellent (2017–2020). No direct wastewater discharges to sea are present. No short-term pollution events were recorded in the last four years. No anomalous situations verified.

Risks

Mouth of Lama identified as a potential pollution cause. Area characterised by agricultural use and a fossil hydrographic network which could represent potential sources of diffuse pollution via surface runoff. No blooms of algae or cyanobacteria detected. No cases of potentially toxic algal proliferation recorded.
