Lumsås Sønderstrand is a fine sandy beach located in Sejerø Bay, south of Lumsås in Odsherred Municipality, Denmark. The beach is approximately 400 meters long with a sandy area about 20 meters wide. The bathing water has been classified as excellent quality based on data from 2017–2021. The water is brackish, consisting of a mixture of salt and fresh water, with varying current directions predominantly from the south or north.

Water

Brackish water (mixture of salt and fresh water) located in Sejerø Bay. At the sampling point: approximately 20 meters to 0.5 meters depth, 27 meters to 1 meter depth, and 190 meters to 2 meters depth. The beach extends approximately 400 meters.

Location

The bathing area is accessed via Lumsås Strandvej. A small road at number 19 leads to number 21 and the bathing site. A parking area is located approximately 500 meters away. The site is situated in a summer house area.

Information signage on beach regarding water quality classification and bathing water description. Warning signs posted on information stands in case of contaminated water risk.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: Excellent (based on 2017–2021 data). There have been only a few minor exceedances of pollution standards, with current direction at exceedances typically from west and north-northwest. Pollution duration in summer typically short (1–3 days depending on weather, current, and wind). Risk of cyanobacteria and phytoplankton growth is low. Risk of macroalgae growth is moderate.

Risks

Registered discharges around the bathing site, some receiving wastewater from scattered settlements. Risk of macroalgae growth is moderate. Risk of cyanobacteria and phytoplankton growth is low. Glass fragments, litter, and chemical pollution including oil spills can occasionally occur. Swimming is discouraged if water is unclear and feet are not visible at knee depth.
