Burvænget

Burvænget is a bathing beach located in Sejerø Bay west of Lumsås in Odsherred Municipality, Denmark. The beach features a fine sand strand approximately 200 metres long and 11 metres wide. The water is brackish, a mixture of salt and fresh water. Water quality is classified as good based on four years of sampling data. The beach is situated in a summer cottage area.

Water

Brackish water (mixture of salt and fresh water) in Sejerø Bay. At the sampling point: approximately 10 metres to 0.5 metre depth, 33 metres to 1 metre depth, and 225 metres to 2 metres depth. Current direction predominantly from western edges.

Location

Accessed via Dyrehøj Strandvej; a small path near mailboxes at numbers 5 and 7 leads to the beach. Parking is available.

Water Quality

Water quality classified as good according to BEK 917, based on data from the last four years of sampling. The bathing water is periodically affected by wastewater. Two discharge outlets are present: one at the beach and another 150 metres southeast. Approximately 2 kilometres northwest, Møllerenden stream has a major outlet receiving wastewater from scattered settlements. August 2021 analysis showed widespread pollution in Nekselø Bay and Sejerø Bay, resulting in swimming being advised against. Pollution duration depends on extent, current direction, and weather conditions, with summer pollution potentially lasting considerable time.

Risks

Wastewater discharge from nearby outlets and northwest outlet during certain conditions. Cyanobacteria risk is low. Medium risk for macroalgae and phytoplankton growth. Swimming is advised against if water is unclear and feet cannot be seen at knee depth. Heavy rainfall can correlate with pollution exceedances. Glass shards, waste, and chemical contamination including oil spills occasionally occur.
