Mariendal Strand is a bathing beach in Aarhus Municipality with a width of 10–15 metres. The seabed consists of sand with soft bottom patches in places. Water quality is classified as excellent based on data from the last four years.

Water

Sandy seabed with soft bottom in places. The 2-metre depth contour is approximately 300 metres from the shore. Predominantly weak northward current. Fast ferries may generate waves 50–75 cm higher than natural wave height.

Location

Mariendal Strand is located in Aarhus Municipality. The northern part of the beach can be accessed via forest roads with good parking facilities. The southern part is primarily used by the local holiday home area and has no parking.

Water Quality

Water quality is classified as excellent. Risk of faecal contamination is low. Vadbro Beck drains immediately north of the holiday home area. Mariendal Beck drains approximately 700 metres north of the holiday home area.

Risks

Blue-green algae (cyanobacteria) can occur during particular current directions and after several days of calm, warm weather. Large amounts of seaweed and macroalgae at the water's edge can form toxins during decomposition and may protect disease-causing bacteria from UV degradation. Monitor for official guidance advising against swimming.
