Water

Sandy beach and seawater. Beach width: 15 metres. Sandy bottom. Water depth: 2 metres at a distance of approximately 75 metres from the shore. Predominantly weak northward current. Waves of 50–75 centimetres above natural wave height may occur due to fast ferry operations.

Location

Aarhus Municipality, Denmark. Access to the beach is via forest roads from Mariendal and Fløjstrup.

Risks

Blue-green algae (cyanobacteria) can occur during particular current directions and after several days of calm, warm weather. Large accumulations of macroalgae (seaweed) at the shoreline may accumulate toxins as they decompose and can shelter disease-causing bacteria from UV degradation. Swimmers are advised to avoid bathing near large seaweed accumulations and to check for information advising against bathing during algal blooms.
