Neuenhainer See is a former lignite mining pit that filled with groundwater after mining ended in 1969. The lake covers 4.4 hectares with a water volume of 0.28 million cubic metres and maximum depth of 14.1 metres. The water is characterised by low nutrient levels, minimal algae development, and clear appearance. The northern shore features a 170-metre sandy beach accessible for swimming.
