Silbersee Frielendorf

Silbersee Frielendorf is a former lignite mining lake in the municipality of Frielendorf that formed during the 1980s following brown coal extraction and subsequent flooding with groundwater. The lake covers 8.2 hectares with a maximum depth of 14 metres and average depth of 6.6 metres. The water has low nutrient loading, clear water, and minimal algae and cyanobacteria development. A 15-metre artificial sandy beach is located on the south shore with adjacent meadows, and the site attracts approximately 300 visitors daily during summer.
