Nissia is a bathing area located in a petal-shaped bay with rocky sides that create small cliffs. A sandy beach with an average width of 16 metres forms in the middle of the bay, backed by boulders. The area is part of the Natura 2000 European Ecological Network. Decorative foreign tree species are the only vegetation present. Water-sports facilities are located at the northern end of the beach, and umbrellas and loungers are available.

Sandy substrate with rocks primarily near the two sides. Beach length: 80 metres. Average water depth: 2 metres. Maximum water depth: 3.5 metres. Water body name: Protaras.

Location

Nissia is located in the Famagusta District, administered by the Municipality of Paralimni. Coordinates: 34.066516°E, 34.999704°N (WGS84 GPS). The beach is managed publicly.

Facilities

Umbrellas and loungers are available. Rubbish bins are present. Water-sports facilities are located at the northern end of the beach. Public facilities such as changing rooms and toilets are planned but not yet constructed. No lifeguard services are currently provided. The Municipality of Paralimni is responsible for beach cleaning.

Water Quality

The bathing area is not monitored. The area is susceptible to nitrate pollution. Potential pollution sources include irrigation water runoff from nearby agricultural areas and wastewater discharges from hotel facilities. Adjacent bathing areas that have been monitored for many years under Directive 76/160/EEC show exceptional water quality.

Risks

Low risk of short-term pollution from passing vessels. Low risk of extensive macroalgae and phytoplankton development based on identified pollution sources.
