Nord Foce Asa is a sandy beach located in Pontecagnano Faiano, characterized by the presence of tourist facilities along the shore. The coastline is low-lying with residential settlements and moderate urbanization. Extensive agricultural areas extend inland, with the Torrente Asa stream mouth located south of the bathing area.

Location

Pontecagnano Faiano, Salerno Province, Campania Region, Italy. The beach is situated along a sandy coastal stretch with the Torrente Asa mouth to the south.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: Excellent (2020–2023). Urban wastewater from Pontecagnano Faiano is conveyed to an intercommunal treatment plant using active sludge biological treatment located in Salerno on Via A. De Luca, with discharge into the Picentino River.

Risks

Identified potential pollution sources include: a drainage canal on the western side, emergency overflow station S9 with discharge pipe on the western side (coordinates 40.6155° N, 14.8508° E), the Torrente Asa mouth (coordinates 40.6077° N, 14.8579° E), and emergency overflow station S10 on the eastern side with discharge pipe (coordinates 40.6066° N, 14.8599° E). The S10 overflow structure on the beach has been destroyed by a storm surge for over 10 years and the overflow is now completely obstructed.
