Numana Bassa is a pebble beach with calcareous origin, located in Numana in the Marche region of Italy. The beach has a moderate slope of 3% on the emerged shore and 8% on the submerged shore. It is protected by the Numana Porto Recanati port facilities. The beach is 1250 m long and 95 m wide, with a distance of 4 m between medium-low and high water. The surrounding area consists of urban and tourist settlements.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: E. Wastewater treatment via a biological treatment plant with activated sludge located in Castelfidardo with capacity of 62,000 equivalent inhabitants. Approximately 22,150 equivalent inhabitants from urban settlements and 6,550 from productive activities are served, with fluctuations to 25,300 during summer months. Monthly ARPAM monitoring in 2010 showed Escherichia coli levels ranging from below detection limits to 110 CFU/100 ml. Phytoplankton monitoring for 2007–2010 showed absence of algal blooms typical of the shoreline.

Risks

Natural watercourse for clear water and overflow of sewage from the sewage system entering the Numana Port. During heavy rainfall, flows in the sewage system increase significantly, and overflow discharge outlets are located along the beach in Numana and along the Musone River in Osimo and Castelfidardo.
