Nysø is an artificial lake created through gravel extraction in Varde Southern Plantation, approximately 5 km south of Varde. The lake has been open for bathing since 2012 and is situated among several small lakes in the area. Swimming is permitted throughout the entire lake, though the lake bottom is very steep with depths reaching up to 13 meters in former suction extraction pits. The water is naturally turbid due to clay content in the soil, making it difficult to see changes in depth. A floating barrier on the northeastern side marks an area with gentler slopes suitable for swimming practice.
