Paimó is an urban beach comprising the Pedras Negras and Paimó shorelines in Póvoa de Varzim. It features an extensive sand strip with dunes and calm water. A dune boardwalk protects the coastal ecosystem's biodiversity. The surroundings are peaceful and close to residential areas, making it easily accessible.

Water Quality

Water quality is classified according to Decreto-Lei 135/2009, as amended by Decreto-Lei 113/2012. Potential microbiological pollution sources include faecal contamination from the Barranha tributary or stormwater drainage network. No days of bathing prohibition or advisory due to short-term pollution occurred during the 2024 bathing season.

Risks

Short-term pollution is unlikely but may occur due to excessive tributary flow during heavy precipitation, causing microbiological load entrainment and possible stormwater network contamination. Cyanobacteria have a moderate proliferation potential with a history of bloom occurrences. Macroalgae and phytoplankton have low proliferation potential with no historical occurrences.
