Le Nere is a bathing water area located along a high, rocky coastline on the western side of the Portovenere promontory in Liguria, Italy. The water body is classified as coastal waters with mountainous relief and low stability. The area has been classified as excellent quality based on monitoring data from 2008 to 2011.

Coastal water body. The area comprises a long stretch of cliff face facing west from the Portovenere promontory. Relevant watercourses are Fosso delle Conche and Canale di Moscatelli.

Location

Portovenere, La Spezia province, Liguria region. Contact: Municipality of Portovenere, Via Garibaldi 9; Harbour Master, Largo Michele Fiorillo 2, telephone 0187258101. The bathing area extends across 3,147 units.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: Excellent (2008–2011). No coastal treatment plants or Imhoff tanks are present in the area. River mouth identified as a pollution source.

Risks

The Ligurian Sea is not characterized by cyanobacterial blooms due to prevailing oligotrophic conditions. No cases of potentially toxic algal strain proliferation have been recorded in the last four years.
