Water Quality

Water quality classified as EXCELLENT for the period 2008–2011. Pollution sources identified include coastal treatment plants (Depuratore Prà-Voltri and Depuratore Pegli with active discharge pipes) and river mouths. No cyanobacterial blooms or toxic algal proliferation cases have been recorded in the last four years. The Ligurian Sea is characterized by oligotrophic conditions preventing cyanobacterial blooms.

Risks

Coastal treatment plant discharge pipes and river mouths identified as pollution sources. An anomalous situation management approach is under development. Animals permitted in the area.
