Water

Lake Bourget, the largest natural lake in France. The lake has a volume of 3.6 km³, a length of 18 km, an average width of 3 km, and a maximum depth of 145 m. The lake is situated in a deep valley bordered by two Jurassic mountain chains: Mont du Chat to the west and Gros Foug-Corsué to the east.

Location

Aix-les-Bains, Savoie department, France. The beach is located on the eastern shore of Lake Bourget. The commune has an area of 12.62 km² with a population density of 2,201 inhabitants/km² and altitude ranging from 224 m to 524 m.

Season

Official monitoring season: July and August.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: Type 1 profile (risk of pollution not confirmed). Water quality is classified as sufficient, good, or excellent according to Directive 2006/7/CE based on control results from the four preceding bathing seasons. Monitoring parameters include intestinal enterococci and Escherichia coli.

Risks

Potential macroalgae proliferation and phytoplankton proliferation potential have been assessed. Rainfall influences contamination of the beach. The study examined potential pollution sources within the catchment area covering the communes of Aix-les-Bains and Drumettaz-Clarafond.
