Water

Lake Bourget, the largest natural lake in France. The lake has a volume of 3.6 km³, a length of 18 km, an average width of 3 km, and a maximum depth of 145 m. The lake occupies a deep glacial valley oriented north-south.

Location

Aix-les-Bains, Savoie department, France. The beach is located on the east shore of Lake Bourget. The commune covers 12.62 km² with altitudes ranging from 224 m to 524 m.

Season

Monitored in July and August.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: Type 1 profile (pollution risk not established). Water quality is classified as sufficient, good, or excellent according to European Directive 2006/7/CE based on sanitary control results from the four preceding bathing seasons. Monitoring focuses on two bacteriological parameters: intestinal enterococci and Escherichia coli. Potential for macroalgae proliferation and phytoplankton proliferation has been assessed.

Risks

Assessment of potential pollution sources was conducted on the watershed of Mémard Beach, including communes of Aix-les-Bains and Drumettaz-Clarafond. Potential contamination sources evaluated include wastewater treatment infrastructure, non-collective sanitation systems, stormwater networks, and watercourses.
