Plage du Village Vacances is a bathing beach located in Colleville-sur-Mer, a coastal commune in Calvados, Lower Normandy. The beach is part of the D-Day landing beaches (Omaha Beach) and is situated along the English Channel between Pointe du Hoc to the east and Port-en-Bessin to the west. The commune covers 6.9 square kilometres and is bordered by Sainte-Honorine-des-Pertes to the east and Saint-Laurent-sur-Mer to the west. This bathing water profile document was prepared in October 2014 to assess water quality and identify potential pollution sources affecting the beach.

Water Quality

Water quality classification based on microbiological parameters assessed over a 4-year period per EU directive requirements. Monitoring conducted through the ARS (Regional Health Authority) bathing water quality network. Quality assessment includes tracking of shellfish production zones and phytoplankton monitoring via REPHY network (Ifremer).

Risks

Potential pollution sources identified include: collective sewage systems with discharge points and treatment station, non-collective sanitation systems, storm water drainage, agricultural activity, recreational camper vans, nautical activities, and equestrian centres. Risk of short-term pollution events related to rainfall and tidal conditions.
