Cala Cerrada is a natural Mediterranean coastal bathing area located in Pulpí, Almería, in the Segura Basin along the Mediterranean Sea. The beach is 260 metres long with an average width of 20 metres, composed of golden sand and characterized by calm bathing conditions. It is situated in an isolated area with moderate wave exposure and deep, sandy waters.

Water

Mediterranean coastal water body. Deep, sandy substrate with gravel and rocks. Micromareal range of 0–2 metres. Dominant currents flow toward the east, east-southeast, and east-northeast. Wave regime dominated by easterly and east-northeasterly winds associated with the Levante wind. Moderately exposed to wave action.

Location

Pulpí, Almería, Andalucía, Spain. Access is on foot or by car. The nearest sports port is at Águilas, 6 kilometres away.

Signage present. Accessible boardwalks. Disabled access available. Toilets available. Cleaning service provided. Waste bins provided. Lifeguard equipment present. No Red Cross post. No lifeguards. No showers. No water sports equipment rental. No water sports club. No scuba diving zone.

Water Quality

Water quality classification was excellent for all four monitoring years: 2013, 2014, 2015, and 2016. Contamination risk is low and of short duration (24 hours), with a microbiological nature. Monitoring conducted under deterministic methodology following UNE 150008 standard.

Risks

Proliferation risk for macroalgae is medium. Risk from jellyfish is low. Risk from phytoplankton is low. Diffuse pollution source from land use in the influence zone, including forest and natural surfaces.
