Playa La Higuerica is a natural sand beach located in Águilas with a golden sand bottom. The beach is 300 metres long with an average width of 25 metres and experiences low tidal range. It is used daily for recreational swimming and has a medium occupancy level. The water is classified as excellent quality based on monitoring from 2000–2011.

Mediterranean Sea coastal water body. Length 300 metres, average width 25 metres. Natural composition with golden sand bottom. Water renewal time less than 7 days. Micromareal tidal amplitude (less than 2 metres). Maximum estimated bathers: 3,000.

Water Quality

Water quality was rated as excellent during 2000–2009 and in 2010–2011. The water body belongs to the Segura Hydrographic Demarcation. The coastal water mass 'Puntas de Calnegre-Punta Parda' has good ecological status.

Risks

Toxic phytoplankton proliferation is a natural phenomenon that rarely affects public health or ecosystems. Sampling in 2008 and 2009 detected potentially toxic cells at low densities with very low or low risk. Jellyfish appear seasonally with peak abundance from early spring to late summer.
