Playa La Carolina is a natural sandy beach located in Águilas in the Mediterranean coastal zone. Coastal Mediterranean maritime zone, part of the Segura River Basin hydrological demarcation. Length 400 metres, average width 25 metres. Golden sand bottom. Micro-tidal range (less than 2 metres). Water renewal cycle less than 7 days.

Water Quality

Water quality was rated as excellent during 2000–2009 and in 2010–2011. The bathing area is located in the water body 'Puntas de Calnegre-Punta Parda', which has good ecological status. No significant pollution pressure is present. No authorised discharges in the proximate area.

Risks

Toxic phytoplankton proliferation is a natural phenomenon that rarely affects public health or ecosystems. Sampling conducted in 2008 and 2009 detected potentially toxic algal cells at low densities during bathing season, with very low to low risk. Jellyfish appear seasonally between early spring and late summer with highly variable abundance.
