Water

Mediterranean Sea, belonging to water mass C14 (Begur-Blanes: rocky type with low continental influence). The beach is characterized by very coarse sand with a median grain size of 1.41 mm. Water temperatures range from 20.1 °C in June to 23.9 °C in August. Average salinity ranges from 36.9 to 38.3 psu. Significant wave height is 0.69 metres with an average period of 6.2 seconds. The beach has a very steep water entry slope and a coastline evolution rate of -0.06 metres per year.

Blanes, Girona province, Catalonia, Spain. The beach is situated in a residential area within the municipality of Blanes, which has 39,107 inhabitants.

Season

First week of June to third week of September. Microbiological control occurs weekly for 17 consecutive weeks. Environmental inspections are conducted a minimum of three times weekly.

Water Quality

Water quality is monitored and classified according to European Directive 2006/7/CE. Microbiological indicators (Escherichia coli and intestinal enterococci) are analysed weekly. Environmental monitoring evaluates water transparency, coloration, human-made floating solids, marine and terrestrial vegetation remains, foam, phytoplankton patches, hydrocarbons, and jellyfish presence. The beach occasionally receives water discharge from the buried Sant Francesc stream during heavy rainfall.

The region is subject to phytoplankton proliferation monitoring, which is a natural phenomenon that can occur frequently in some beaches during summer. Toxic phytoplankton species may occasionally be detected and management protocols are in place.
