Playa de Babilonia is a maritime bathing zone located in Guardamar del Segura, Alicante, in the Valencia region of Spain. It is a longitudinal beach with a 965-meter shoreline and an average width of 15.80 meters, composed of natural sand on a low-accumulation coastline. The beach has no defense structures at its northern or southern limits, bordered by Playa de Vivers to the north and Playa de Centre to the south. The water is classified as Mediterranean coastal, with microtidal range and currents flowing from south to north.

Water Quality

Water quality is managed under Spanish Royal Decree 1341/2007 implementing EU Directive 2006/7/CE. Weekly inspections assess visual inspection parameters during the bathing season. Short-duration contamination risks from rainfall, urban sanitation, and coastal discharges are all evaluated as low frequency with slight effect. The Segura River represents a continuous mixed-origin discharge point at the northern limit of the beach, classified as medium risk. Environmental control point not deemed necessary as no significant direct discharges or urban sewage connections directly affect water quality.

Segura River discharge at northern beach limit (continuous, mixed origin). Low-frequency risks from rainfall, urban sanitation systems, and coastal discharges. Phytoplankton proliferation possible in low-renewal water zones. Jellyfish blooms possible as natural phenomenon associated with coastal geomorphology, climate conditions, and high water temperatures. No cyanobacteria episodes detected in Valencia's coastal area.
