Cala Fustera is a closed cove beach located in Benissa, Alicante Province, in the Valencian Community of Spain. The beach has a sandy composition with an artificial origin and is bordered by cliffs to the north and south. It features a seafront promenade and does not have defensive structures. The beach has a high-medium bather density during the bathing season.

Water

Marine bathing zone with a high-tide line length of 93.5 metres and average width of 20.9 metres. Sand composition is artificial. The coast type is cliff. Current direction runs from south to north. Tidal range is microtidal. The beach is part of the Jucar hydrographic demarcation, in coastal category waters with typology 8. Water body status is very good.

Location

Benissa, Alicante Province, Valencian Community, Spain. The beach is bounded to the north by Els Pinets beach and to the south by the Les Bassetes sports port. Parking and accessible parking for people with disabilities are available.

Lifeguards, free public toilets, foot wash showers, waste bins including recycling, accessible services, accessible point service, parking, bar/snack stand, buoys, viewpoint, picnic area, kayak rental, hiking trails.

Water Quality

Water quality is classified as excellent. The beach has been monitored since 1988. Weekly inspections are conducted during the bathing season with assessment of visual inspection parameters. Potential short-term contamination risk factors include rainfall, urban sewerage, and coastal discharges, all with low frequency and minor impact. No environmental control point (PCA) has been established as there are no direct discharges or urban sewerage connections that could affect water quality.

Risks

A natural watercourse (Barranco norte Cala Fustera) with mixed origin discharges into the coast at the northern limit with low risk type. Rainfall frequency is low with minor impact. Phytoplankton blooms are a natural phenomenon that can occur but are not typical in coastal waters. Cyanobacteria have not been detected in the Valencian Community coastline. Jellyfish blooms are a natural phenomenon associated with coastal geomorphology and high water temperatures.
