Playa de La Glea is a marine bathing beach located in Orihuela, Alicante, in the Valencian Community of Spain. The beach has a longitudinal open configuration with an artificial sand composition and is bordered to the north by Playa de Calas de Aguamarina and to the south by Playa de Barranco Rubio. The beach features a rigid seafront promenade made of concrete and wood, with no coastal defence structures. It is situated in an urban zone with a high density of bathers during the swimming season.

Water

Coastal marine water body. High water line length 585.5 m, average width 47.5 m. Sandy beach with cliff-type coastline. Microtidal range. Current direction south to north. Part of the Segura River Basin water district, coastal water category, water mass typology 6, with good status.

Location

Orihuela, Alicante, Valencian Community, Spain. The beach has access roads, disabled access, and parking available.

Facilities

Lifeguards and rescue services available. Free public toilets and toilets in beach bars. Foot wash facilities. Bins and selective waste collection. Beach accessories rental (loungers, umbrellas), children's play area, kiosk. Buoys and beach marking system. Accessible parking and disabled access.

1 June to 15 September

Water Quality

Water quality classified as Buena (Good) for the monitoring period 2020-2023. Monitoring point located at beach centre (coordinates 698210, 4197420). Weekly inspections conducted during swimming season evaluate water analysis, water appearance, and sand cleanliness. No direct discharges affecting water quality. Low frequency, mild impact from rainfall, urban sanitation, and coastal discharges. No environmental control point established due to absence of direct discharges.

Low frequency, mild impact potential from rainfall events. Low frequency, mild impact potential from urban sanitation systems. Low frequency, mild impact potential from coastal discharges. No cyanobacteria detected in Valencian coastal waters. Phytoplankton proliferation possible but not currently documented. Jellyfish blooms are natural phenomena potentially associated with coastal geomorphology and high water temperatures.
