Playa Las Sirenas is a natural sandy beach in the coastal maritime zone of La Manga del Mar Menor near Cartagena. The beach has a golden sand bottom and experiences microtidal conditions with a water renewal rate of less than 7 days. It is an urban beach with high occupancy used daily for recreational bathing by non-local users.

Water Quality

Water quality was classified as excellent from 2000–2009 and remained excellent in 2010 and 2011. No significant pollution sources identified in the proximal area. No authorized discharges present.

Risks

Toxic phytoplankton proliferation is a natural phenomenon that rarely affects public health. No potentially toxic cells were detected in 2008 and 2009 sampling campaigns. Risk level: null. Jellyfish appear seasonally, with peak abundance from early spring to late summer. Short-duration episodes are unlikely.
