Platja de la Mota de Sant Pere is a sandy beach located in Cubelles, Barcelona, in a semi-urban to natural setting within the Garraf region. The beach is 1,250 metres long with an average width of 56 metres and covers 79,367 square metres. It features fine sand with a gentle water entry gradient and experiences medium summer occupation.

Water

Mediterranean coastal water body. The beach is classified as a shallow sandy type with low continental influence. Average water temperature ranges from 22°C in June to 26°C in July and August, decreasing to 25°C in September. Salinity ranges from 36.5 to 38.4 practical salinity units. The significant wave height averages 0.74 metres with a mean period of 6 seconds. The Foix river provides freshwater input during rainfall episodes with an intermittent flow. The coastal area has a high hydrological response velocity index.

Location

Cubelles municipality, Barcelona province, Garraf comarca, Catalonia, Spain. The beach borders the Foix river delta to the northeast and the Salines beach to the southeast. Cubelles has a population of 14,992 residents.

June to September.

Water Quality

Water quality is monitored biweekly from June to September by the Catalan Water Agency (ACA) following Directive 2006/7/CE. Monitoring focuses on faecal contamination indicators: Escherichia coli and intestinal Enterococci. Quality classifications are: Excellent and Good (suitable for swimming) and Insufficient (unsuitable for swimming) on a temporary basis, or Excellent, Good, Sufficient, and Insufficient on an annual basis after four years of data.

Risks

The Foix river discharges into the sea at the northeastern boundary of the beach. Two submarine outfalls from the Cubelles-Cunit wastewater treatment system are located at nearby Cunit beach: a principal outfall 1,950 metres long at 14 metres depth and an emergency outfall 1,170 metres long at 11 metres depth.
