Platja de la Picòrdia is an open beach located in Arenys de Mar in the Maresme comarca of Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain. The beach is situated in a highly urban environment with an average width of 11 metres and a length of 580 metres. It experiences high occupancy levels during summer and has a steep water entry slope. The beach borders the Arenys de Mar port to the northeast and adjoins Platja de les Roques d'en Lluc to the southwest.

Water

Mediterranean Sea water body. The beach is part of water mass C16 (Pineda de Mar-Mataró), classified as a sandy shallow type with low continental influence. Surface area: 7,115 square metres. Average salinity: 36.8–38.6 psu. Water temperature: June 23.8°C, July 23.9°C, August 24.5°C, September 24.0°C. Hydrological response index is high. Predominant sea state is rippled with significant wave height of 0.69 metres and average period of 6.2 seconds.

Location

Arenys de Mar, Barcelona province, Catalonia, Spain. The beach is bounded by Arenys de Mar port to the northeast and by Platja de les Roques d'en Lluc to the southwest near the RENFE railway station.

June to September.

Water Quality

Water quality is monitored fortnightly from June to September under the Catalan Water Agency's (ACA) surveillance programme. Quality classification is determined according to Directive 2006/7/CE based on faecal contamination indicators (Escherichia coli and intestinal Enterococcus). Temporary quality classifications are expressed as Excellent, Good (suitable for bathing), or Insufficient (unsuitable for bathing). Annual classifications are derived from four years of analytical data.

Risks

The beach is subject to freshwater inputs from Riera d'Arenys and Rial del Bareu, which typically discharge during periods of intensive rainfall. Temporary water quality deterioration may occur following rainfall episodes or sanitation incidents.
