Platja de la Riera is a semi-enclosed beach located in Cambrils municipality in the Baix Camp region of Tarragona, Catalonia. The beach is 200 metres long with an average width of 15 metres and covers an area of 3,000 square metres. It is situated in a residential setting west of Cambrils Port and bordered by the beach of Horta de Santa Maria. The beach is flanked by a tree-lined park and a seafront promenade. The Alforja stream flows into the beach at its centre.

Water

Mediterranean coastal waters classified as water mass C30 (Cambrils-Mont-roig del Camp sandy shallow type with low continental influence). Average water temperature: 21.9°C in June, 25.4°C in July, 25.9°C in August, 24.9°C in September. Salinity range: 35.6–38.4 psu. Significant wave height 81 cm with average period of 5.24 seconds. Predominant wave direction is east. The Alforja stream is the main water input, flowing to the beach during rainfall or human discharge.

Location

Cambrils, Tarragona province, Catalonia, Spain. Located west of Cambrils Port and adjacent to Horta de Santa Maria beach. The beach has a seafront promenade with parking and facilities nearby.

Water Quality

Water quality is monitored bi-weekly from June to September according to EU Directive 2006/7/CE and Royal Decree 1341/2007. Monitoring indicators include Escherichia coli and intestinal Enterococci. Classification categories are Excellent, Good, Sufficient, and Insufficient based on microbiological analysis of samples taken at the official monitoring point.

Risks

The Alforja stream flows into the centre of the beach and reaches the sea during rainfall or occasional anthropogenic discharge. Water quality may be temporarily affected during heavy rainfall episodes or sewage system incidents.
