Cavet Beach is a semi-enclosed sandy beach located in the urban-residential area of Cambrils, Tarragona, in Catalonia. The beach has an average width of 32 metres, a length of 560 metres, and a total surface area of 18,241 square metres, with coarse sand sediment. It is bounded at both ends by breakwaters and features the Maspujols stream near its northeastern end. The beach experiences medium summer occupancy levels.

Water

Mediterranean Sea. Water body code C30 (Cambrils-Mont-roig del Camp), classified as a sandy shallow water mass with low continental influence. Mean salinity range 36.4–38.2 psu. Water temperature: June 21.7°C, July 24.9°C, August 26.3°C, September 25.1°C. Significant wave height 125 cm with mean period 59 seconds, most frequent direction northeast. Predominant sea state: slight ripple. Dominant winds: southeast, weak. Low hydrological response velocity index.

Location

Cambrils municipality, Tarragona province, Catalonia, Spain. Located on the Mediterranean coast in the Baix Camp comarca. The nearest town is Cambrils with a population of 31,720 inhabitants.

Season

First week of June to third week of September. Monitoring conducted over 17 consecutive weeks with weekly microbiological sampling (every Saturday) and minimum 3 weekly environmental inspections.

Water Quality

Water quality is monitored and classified according to Directive 2006/7/CE. Microbiological indicators monitored weekly are Escherichia coli and intestinal enterococci. Environmental inspections evaluate water transparency, colour, floating solids, marine and terrestrial vegetation, foam, phytoplankton blooms, hydrocarbons, and jellyfish presence.

Risks

The Riudoms stream normally does not reach the sea but discharges into the bathing zone during heavy rainfall. The Regueral stream, located approximately 800 metres southwest of the beach boundary, discharges to sea during heavy rainfall or due to anthropogenic spillage. The beach is subject to monitoring for phytoplankton proliferation, which may pose risks to human health and marine ecosystems.
