Platja del Prat d'en Forés is a sandy beach located in Cambrils, Tarragona, in Catalonia, Spain. The beach is 870 metres long with an average width of 80 metres and covers 64,943 square metres. It is naturally bounded to the east by rocks and to the west by the breakwater of Cambrils port. The beach experiences high occupancy during summer months and is situated in an urban environment.

Water

Mediterranean Sea. The water mass belongs to C30 Cambrils-Mont-roig del Camp, classified as a sandy, shallow water mass with low continental influence. Average salinity ranges from 38.3 to 38.4 psu. Water temperatures are approximately 21.7°C in June, 25.5°C in July, 26°C in August, and 24.8°C in September. Average wave height is 81 cm with a mean period of 5.24 seconds. Predominant winds are light southwest winds. Predominant sea state is rippled.

Location

Cambrils municipality in Tarragona province, Catalonia, Spain. The beach is bounded to the east by rocks and to the west by Cambrils port breakwater. It is located on the Mediterranean coast with the Regueral stream discharging at the right side of the beach.

Season

First week of June to third week of September. Microbiological control is conducted weekly and environmental control with a minimum of three weekly inspections during this 17-week period.

Water Quality

Water quality is monitored and classified according to European Directive 2006/7/CE. Microbiological monitoring includes analysis of Escherichia coli and intestinal enterococci. Environmental control parameters assessed include water transparency, coloration, human-made floating solids, marine and terrestrial plant remains, foam, phytoplankton patches, hydrocarbons, and jellyfish presence.

Risks

The Regueral stream, the main water intake to the bathing zone, normally does not reach the sea but can discharge into the right side of the beach during heavy rainfall or anthropogenic discharge. Nearby streams including the Riudoms, Alforja, and Mare de Déu del Camí rivers discharge 600, 700, and 1000 metres respectively from the beach limits and behave similarly to the Regueral stream.
