Playa Levante is an urban beach in the Mar Menor with calm, warm waters and a sandy bottom. It is located on the Segura River Basin hydrographic demarcation and features a gentle slope suitable for bathing. The beach has high occupancy and serves as a popular public beach with a nearby sports port.

Water

Mediterranean Sea coastal marine zone. Beach length 455 m, average width 20 m. Sandy and gravel bottom with sand composition. Calm water conditions with gentle slope. Anchorage zone present.

Location

Santa Lucia-Cartagena, approximately 34 km from the nearest hospital (Hospital Santa Lucia). Accessible via the Autovia la Manga motorway (MU-312, exits 8-9). Easy pedestrian access, vehicle access available, disabled access provided. Parking available with more than 100 spaces. Urban bus service available.

Danger signage present. Lifeguard and rescue service available during summer season.

Water Quality

Water quality classified as EXCELLENT for the 2017-2019 period. E. coli measurements: 2019 range 0-46 UFC/100ml, 2018 range 0-22 UFC/100ml, 2017 range 0-90 UFC/100ml. Enterococcus measurements: 2019 range 0-40 UFC/100ml, 2018 range 0-69 UFC/100ml, 2017 range 0-26 UFC/100ml. Toxic phytoplankton proliferation was practically absent throughout all monitoring campaigns during the bathing season. A bathing advisory was issued from 16-23 September 2019 due to suspected deficient water quality from heavy rainfall events.

Risks

Jellyfish have seasonal appearance periods (early spring and late summer) with highly variable production. Heavy rainfall events can affect water quality.
