Playa de Levante is an urban beach in Águilas located in the Mediterranean coastal zone. The beach is 400 metres long with an average width of 20 metres and features golden sand. Water

Mediterranean Sea, coastal maritime zone within the Segura River Basin. The beach is 400 metres long with an average width of 20 metres. Water renewal occurs within 7 days. Tidal range is micromareal (less than 2 metres). The sea bed is golden sand.

Location

Águilas, Spain. Coordinates: 37.406737° N, 1.576689° W (UTM 30N 626077.63, 4141152.59). The beach has a promenade and is located in an urbanised area.

Facilities

Foot washing stations (3), toilets (2). No showers or changing rooms reported.

Water Quality

Water quality was classified as excellent from 2000 to 2011. In August 2010, a brief contamination episode occurred due to wastewater treatment plant overflow. Toxic phytoplankton proliferation is a natural phenomenon that rarely affects public health; presence of potentially toxic cells was recorded in seven campaigns during the 2008 bathing season.

Risks

Toxic phytoplankton proliferation with low risk of short-duration episodes. Jellyfish appear seasonally with maximum abundance from early spring to late summer; risk of short-duration episodes is low.
