Playa el Hornillo is a natural sandy beach located in Águilas on the Mediterranean coast. The beach is 500 metres long with an average width of 25 metres and features golden sand. It experiences high occupancy with an estimated maximum of 5,416 swimmers daily. The water has excellent renewal capacity with a water exchange rate of less than 7 days.

Water Quality

Water quality was rated as excellent from 2000 to 2011. The beach belongs to the Segura River Basin Hydrographic Demarcation and is part of the coastal water body 'Puntas de Calnegre-Punta Parda', which has good ecological status.

Risks

Toxic phytoplankton proliferation is a natural phenomenon that rarely affects public health or ecosystems. Sampling in 2008 and 2009 showed practically no potentially toxic cells. Risk level: null or very low. Jellyfish appear seasonally with peak abundance from early spring to late summer.
