Playa de Masbó is a bathing beach located in Moncofa municipality, Castellón province, in the Valencian Community, Spain. The beach has an irregular closed configuration with perpendicular breakwater structures and a rigid maritime promenade. It stretches 932.8 metres along the high-tide line with an average width of 48.1 metres and is composed of sand and pebbles of artificial origin. The beach is situated on a low-accumulation coast with a microtidal range, and currents flow from south to north.

Location

Moncofa, Castellón province, Valencian Community, Spain. The beach is bounded to the north by Playa del Grau and to the south by Playa del Belcaire. Parking is available. Access is provided for persons with disabilities.

Water Quality

Water quality classification for the bathing area is monitored under Royal Decree 1341/2007. Weekly inspections are conducted during the bathing season (1 June to 15 September). Short-duration contamination factors (rain, urban sewerage, coastal discharges) are rated as low frequency with slight impact. Other potential contamination factors (rivers/canals, industrial installations, port facilities, diffuse pollution) are also rated as low frequency with slight impact. The beach water has maintained an excellent classification during recent monitoring seasons.

Risks

A mixed-origin drainage canal (Canal de Masbó) with intermittent discharge is located at the northern limit of the beach, presenting a medium-level risk. An environmental control point is established 53 metres south of this discharge point. Potential for short-duration contamination from rainfall, urban sewerage, and coastal discharges exists but is rated as low frequency with slight impact.
