Platja del Barri Marítim is an open beach located in the urban municipality of Torredembarra in Tarragona, Catalonia. The beach is 800 metres long with an average width of 42 metres, featuring fine sand with a moderate water entry gradient. It borders Platja dels Muntanyans to the left and Platja de la Paella to the right, with the Riera de la Rasa stream at its left extreme and proximity to Torredembarra Port on its right. The beach experiences high occupancy during summer months.

Water

Open Mediterranean beach in the C25 water mass (Cubelles-Altafulla), classified as a shallow sandy type with low continental influence. Surface area 33,184 square metres. Average salinity 34.8–38.6 psu. Water temperatures: June 21.7°C, July 25.1°C, August 25.9°C, September 24.6°C. Significant wave height 74 cm with average period 596 seconds, predominant direction SSW. Weak southwestern winds predominate. Predominant sea state is slight chop.

Location

Torredembarra municipality, Tarragona province, Catalonia. The beach is situated on the Mediterranean coast with a southeast orientation. Parking and facilities information available through Torredembarra tourism website.

Water Quality

Water quality is monitored biweekly from June to September under the Bathing Water Quality Surveillance Programme. Classification uses three temporary categories (Excellent, Good, Insufficient) for bi-weekly results and four annual categories (Excellent, Good, Sufficient, Insufficient) based on four-year data. Monitoring indicators are Escherichia coli and intestinal Enterococci. The beach has no significant freshwater input to the bathing area.

Risks

The beach has high hydrological response velocity (VRH) index. An emergency discharge outlet (Emissari Barri Marítim) is located at the beach, 510 metres long at 12 metres depth, operational only in wastewater treatment system emergency situations.
