Platja del Canyadell is a small cove located on the coast of Tarragona, Spain, shared between the municipalities of Torredembarra and Altafulla. The beach is situated in a semi-urban setting, nestled between sea cliffs known as el Roquer, which feature Mediterranean vegetation and a historic lighthouse. The cove has a moderate water entry gradient with fine sand sediment and experiences low summer occupancy.

Water

Mediterranean Sea cove measuring 60 metres long with an average width of 22 metres. Fine sand sediment with median grain size of 0.23 mm. Water salinity ranges from 33.7 to 38.1 psu. Average temperatures: June 21.7°C, July 25.1°C, August 25.8°C, September 24.6°C. Predominant wave height is 74 cm with a mean period of 6 seconds. The area experiences cyclonic circulation with currents parallel to the continental coast and a current toward the northeast.

Location

Located in Tarragona Province, Catalonia, Spain, within the municipalities of Torredembarra (15,475 inhabitants) and Altafulla (4,988 inhabitants). The beach is in the northeastern third of these municipalities. Parking and facility information can be obtained from the Torredembarra tourism website.

Water Quality

Water quality is monitored biweekly from June to September by the Catalan Water Agency (ACA) in accordance with Directive 2006/7/CE. Monitoring analyzes fecal contamination indicators including Escherichia coli and intestinal enterococci. Quality classifications are expressed as Excellent, Good (suitable for bathing), or Insufficient (unsuitable for bathing) on a biweekly basis, with annual classifications also including Sufficient category based on four-year data analysis.
